On Holden Caulfield’s Ambivalence in the Catcher in the Rye

摘要

麦田里的守望者是美国20世纪文学的“现代经典”，其描述了主人公霍尔顿逃离学校后的几天中所经历的事和感受，通过运用矛盾的对比及各种象征手法，表现了霍尔顿面对二战后美国物质富裕，精神极度空虚的社会产生了逃避、迷惘，想要寻求童年世界纯真美好的矛盾心理。

Abstract

The Catcher in the Rye is called one of the modern classics of American literature in the 20th century, which describes Holden’s experiences and feelings in a few days when he escapes from school. By using techniques of paradox and symbolism, the novel shows Holden’s ambivalence between the escapism from the phony world and the pursuit of a pure child’s world, when facing the postwar American society where people get lost in a luxurious life.
