On Communicative Functions of English Euphemism in Daily Communication

摘要

委婉语作为人类语言中的一种普遍现象，引起了中外学者们的广泛关注和兴趣。研究者们的研究由字、词层面上的研究逐渐拓展到了句子，甚至是篇章的层次。值得一提的是，随着心理学和文化学在我国的兴起和发展，有些学者也开始试图从文化和社会心理的角度对委婉语产生的原因进行探讨。虽然学者们的研究取得了一定的成就，但是在许多方面仍然留下了许多的遗憾，在研究过程中，简单重复的现象比较严重，许多文章停留在浅层的介绍上，没有做深入细致的研究。本文将从委婉语在具体语境中交际功能的相关研究进行综述，帮助英语学习者更加深入地了解在日常交际中英语委婉语的交际功能。

Abstract

As a common phenomenon in human language, the euphemism has attracted a great deal of attention of researchers at home and abroad. Researcher expands gradually from lexical level to sentences, even to the discourse level. It is worth mentioning that some scholars have begun to try to explore the causes of euphemism from the perspective of cultural and social psychology with the rise and development of psychology and cultural studies in China. Undoubtedly, the accomplishment from the researchers is fruitful, but there are still problems. There exists repetitions in their research processes. Many research rests on superficial introduction without detailed studies. This paper studies the communicative functions of euphemism in specific contexts, and helps learners to understand the communicative functions of English Euphemism in daily communication.
