从礼貌原则的视角分析英语委婉语的应用_英语论文

A study on Application of English Euphemism under Politeness Principle

摘要

委婉语既是一个普遍的语言现象，也是一个普遍的文化现象。它在人们的日常交流中发挥着重要的作用。它能使谈话更加流畅和成功，也能使说话者避免丢脸。礼貌原则是leech在Grice的合作原则的基础上提出的一大语用学原理。这一原则包括六大准则:得体准则,宽宏准则,赞誉准则,谦虚准则,一致准则和同情准则。这几大准则有效证明了人们有时会出于礼貌的目的故意违法Grice 的合作原则。本论文将对委婉语的应用和礼貌原则之间的关系进行研究，并证明委婉语的使用是遵循了礼貌原则的。

Abstract

Euphemism is a common phenomenon in language and culture. It plays an important role in people’s daily communication and is used to make conversation more smooth and successful without losing speaker’s face. Based on Grice’s Cooperative Principle, Leech put forward his famous Politeness Principle which is an important principle in pragmatics. It contains six maxims: Tact Maxim, Generosity Maxim, Approbation Maxim, Modesty Maxim, Agreement Maxim and Sympathy Maxim. These maxims prove effectively that people sometimes violate Grice’s Cooperative Principle deliberately for the purpose of politeness. This paper tries to make a clear research about the relationship between the application of euphemism and Politeness Principle, and prove that the application of euphemism adheres to Politeness Principle.
