摘要

恭维是礼貌的一部分,也是人类社会普遍存在的现象。通过恭维,人们可以缩短彼此间的社会距离、维护良好的人际关系。在跨文化交际的过程中,合理使用恭维语,会使交际顺利进行,人际关系融洽,还能帮助建立新的人际关系。恭维语的使用不是一个随意的行为,它受到年龄、性别、社会地位和社会关系等诸多因素的影响。因此在中英两种不同的语言背景下在恭维语的使用和应答等方面存在着诸多的差异。在以往学者的基础上,本文拟从中美恭维语的表达形式、对象、涉及的话题和回应的对比研究,指出在跨文化交流中,只掌握语言本身是远远不够的,更应该熟悉语言背后的文化及其差异。因此本文还从文化的角度分析在恭维语实现过程中由于文化差异可能造成的误解及原因,这对于研究者以及跨文化交流都具有重要意义。
