从女性主义角度解读《秘密花园》中玛丽的蜕变

A Study of Mary’s Metamorphosis in The Secret Garden from the Perspective of Feminism

摘要

《秘密花园》是弗朗西斯·霍奇森·伯内特最成功、最著名的作品之一。本文从女性主义入手，认为小说主人公体现了女性主义思想。本文拟从三个方面来分析主人公玛丽的蜕变，首先是通过描写玛丽在印度的苦闷人生，来表现她放逐的人生；其次通过阐述玛丽的两次“历险”，来表现她的勇敢独立，这是她自己的救赎；最后通过描述花园的生机，来表现她获得新生。揭示了女主人公玛丽是如何通过一步步的蜕变最终实现其精神世界的独立。通过分析得出的启示可以让现代社会中的女性思考自身存在的价值，鼓励她们勇敢追求精神上的解放，实现自己真正的价值。

Abstract

The Secret Garden is one of the most successful and famous works of Frances Hodgson Burnett. This paper starts from the feminism and thinks the heroine reflects the feminist thought. This paper intends to analyze the heroine Mary’s metamorphosis from three aspects. The first aspect is through the description of the miserable life of Mary in India, to express her life in exile; The second aspect is through the description of the two “adventures”, to show her independence, this is her own redemption; Finally is through the description of the garden’s vitality, to show her rebirth. It reveals how the heroine Mary realizes the independence of her spiritual world through metamorphosis step by step. Through the analysis, we can make the women in modern society think about the value of their own existence, and encourage them to pursue the spiritual liberation bravely and realize their true value.
