霍桑《红字》中的女权主义思想解读

An Interpretation of Feminism in Hawthorne’s The Scarlet Letter

摘要

霍桑是19世纪美国著名的浪漫主义作家，其作品揭示了19世纪女性在追求思想自由与独立的过程中经历的各种挫折与挣扎。小说《红字》是霍桑的代表作，通过描写女主人公海斯特为了爱情与清教势力斗争，努力谋求自身的思想独立与自由来展现自己的女权主义意识。本文从海斯特的反抗精神，独立意识，追求爱情和抚养珠儿四个方面，对小说女主人公进行深度解读，从而进一步剖析霍桑的女性主义思想。

Abstract

Hawthorne is a famous American romantic writer in 19th century whose works depict struggles of women in the 19th century in the pursuit of freedom and independence. The novel The Scarlet Letter is Hawthorne's masterpiece. By describing the heroine Hester who fights against the Puritan and struggles for love, and strives for spiritual independence and freedom, Hawthorne reveals his feminist consciousness as well. This paper tends to make a deep analysis of the heroine from four aspects: Hester’s rebellious spirit, Hester’s independent consciousness, Hester’s pursuit of love and raising Pearl, thus further analyzing Hawthorn’s feminist consciousness.
