A Comparative Study on Monkey King and Heracles in Chinese and Greco-Roman Mythology

摘要

孙悟空和赫拉克勒斯是中国和古希腊罗马神话中的两位广为人知的英雄人物。虽然他们来自截然不同的社会文化背景，但是他们的人生轨迹却出奇相似。他们都拥有传奇的出生，天赋异禀，聪明勇敢，并且都在经历无数磨难后修成正果获得永生。但是由于不同的文化背景，孙悟空和赫拉克勒斯也各有特点。神话是一种文化的产物，同时也能反应这种文化。因此，对这两个英雄形象进行比较研究可以帮助英语学习者了解神话背后的文化根源。

Abstract

Monkey King and Heracles are two well-known heroes in Chinese and Greco-Roman mythologies. They come from different social and cultural backgrounds, but they share a similar life path. Both of them were born in a legendary way with extraordinary strength, intelligence and courage, and experienced countless hardships before finally realizing their dream of getting an eternal life. Because of their different cultural backgrounds, Monkey King and Heracles also have their respective features. Mythology is the production of its birth culture, and is also a mirror of its culture. Therefore, a comparative study of the two heroes can help English learners understand the culture behind the mythologies.
