Elements of Greco-Roman mythology in Harry Potter Series

Abstract
As one of most popular contemporary fantasy literature, Harry Potter Series are famous for their wild imagination and well-knitted plots. As a matter of fact, the author J. K. Rowling was inspired by the Greco-Roman mythology in the completion of her work; hence, a number of borrowed factors can be seen in Harry Potter Series. For instance, the teacher of Harry Potter, Minerva McGonagall shares common features with Athena in Greco-Roman mythology. Argus Filch and Alecto Carrow are originated from Argus Panoptes and the Erinyes respectively. Apart from the above figures, a number of creatures, such as Arachne, Cerberus, Aragog and Fluffy are also borrowed from the Greco-Roman mythology. Looking at those borrowed factors in the books can help readers understand the implied meaning of the work.
