摘要

海明威是美国著名小说家，在作品中塑造了一系列“硬汉”形象。在早期作品《永别了，武器》中，海明威成功地塑造了饱受战争摧残的主人公亨利，一个坚强勇敢而又困惑绝望的英雄形象；20世纪30—40年代，在长篇小说《丧钟为谁而鸣》里，他塑造了摆脱迷惘、悲观，为人民利益英勇战斗和无畏牺牲的反法西斯战士形象；20世纪50年代，他塑造了以《老人与海》中桑地亚哥为代表的“可以把他消灭，但就是打不败他”的硬汉形象。硬汉形象贯穿了海明威作品的始终，不同时期描写的硬汉形象有所不同，但也具有相同之处——崇高的英雄性和浓厚的悲观性。本文将基于海明威各时期的代表作和目前已有的研究成果及文献资料，分析其所塑造的硬汉形象的共同特征及不同时期的变化，并结合海明威自身经历及社会等因素分析作者塑造硬汉形象的原因。
