中西姓名的跨文化研究_英语论文

Cross-cultural Studies on Chinese and English Names

摘要

有关于中西姓名相比较的研究有很多，但是目前这方面的研究主要专注于宗教差异。通过比较中西人名的特点，揭示中西姓名背后的文化寓意，包括结构，心理特点等文化特征。本文从三个方面入手，即姓名的构成，来源, 文化内涵，进而阐述一些翻译策略。从姓名的构成可以看出中国人重视血缘关系，西方人则更加强调独立性这一特点；从姓名的来源可以看出中国人姓名背后对潜藏的心理因素比如对美德的向往和安定的追求，西方人则更加现实主义，强调对金钱，独立人格的追求。同时，建立在对中西人名跨文化对比的基础上，提出整理一些中西人名的翻译策略。

Abstract

The difference between Chinese and English names is complicated and subtle. The present studies are mainly concerned with religion. It is quite new to explore cultural connotation in personal names from the points of their composition, psychological attribute, etc. This thesis analyzes and summarizes the cultural connotation in the composition and origins in Chinese and English personal names, then naturally moves to some strategies for translation of Chinese and English personal names. From the contrast of different composition, we can conclude that Chinese people emphasize blood-relationship while western people emphasize personal independence; from contrast of their origins we can conclude that Chinese people show their pursuit of safeness and admiration for virtues while western people tend to be more realistic. At the same time, based on the discussion in personal names, this thesis tries to explore translation of Chinese and English names.
