On translations and reception of Tang Poetry in the US

摘要

中国文学已有数千年的历史，在中国古典文学中，唐诗无疑是最灿烂、最珍贵的一部分，一直备受国内外尤其是美国学者的关注。本文总结了从一战后至今的唐诗翻译在美国学术界的发展与研究，从权威书籍的认可度以及美国学者对唐代诗人的学术研究两方面探讨了唐诗在美国的接受度，讨论了唐诗对现代美国诗学与诗歌创作的影响以及挑选了几位有代表性的翻译大师的翻译理论结合相关唐诗进行赏析。

Abstract

Chinese literature boasts its long history of five thousand years, among which Tang Poetry is an absolutely most valuable part. Occupying an crucial status, Tang Poetry has attracted many scholars’ attention, both home and abroad. This thesis will conclude the development and studies of Tang Poetry translation in the US since World War I, and we will also discuss the reception of Tang Poetry in the US from two aspects: the authoritative serials and studies conducted by American scholars. We will discuss the influence of Tang Poetry on modern American poetry and analyze some translation theories proposed by masters.
