摘要

作为20世纪美国文坛最重要的作家之一, 约翰· 斯坦贝克曾是普利策奖和诺贝尔文学奖的获得者。他一生创作了近20部小说，内容涉及到文化、政治、战争以及社会等诸多方面,他的这些著作既赢得了读者的普遍喜爱，同时也吸引了国外批评界的广泛关注。所研究的话题、方法和批评的视角十分广泛。然而对斯坦贝克关于对资本主义的批判方面的研究却少之又少。《烦恼的冬天》是其众多作品中典型的反映社会现实的一部小说，通过对该作品的分析，不难发现斯坦贝克对资本主义弊端的揭露与批判。

Abstract

As one of America’s most important writers in the 20th century, John Steinbeck was the winner of both the Pulitzer Prize and the Nobel Prize for Literature. Steinbeck created nearly 20 novels during his lifetime, covering a wide range of subjects, such as culture, politics, wars and society. His works were not only famous among readers, but also attracted the attention of foreign critics. The research topic, method and critical perspective are multifarious. However, few researches focused on Steinbeck’s critique of capitalism. The Winter of Our Discontent is a typical novel which reflects the social reality. The present thesis intends to analyze Steinbeck’s exposure and critique of the follies of the capitalist society.
