Linguistic Features of Advertising English and Its Translation

摘要

如今,广告随处可见,作为推销产品和服务的主要方法,广告在商业社会中起着越来越重要的作用。因此,如何让广告语言更有吸引力成了广告商首先考虑

的问题。广告英语有其独特的言语特征,它与普通英语有着较大差别,主要体现在词语的选用、句子的构造和修辞的手段方面。随着经济全球化的发展,广告英语和广告英语的翻译变得更为重要。本文结合大量实例,从广告英语的词法特点、句法特点和修辞特点三个方面分析了广告英语的语言特点,并浅析了其翻译策略。

Abstract

Nowadays, advertising can be seen everywhere. As a major method of promoting products and services, advertisements play a more and more important role in commercial world. Therefore, how to make the advertising language more attractive has become the top-priority for advertisers. Advertising English has its distinctive linguistic features and it is very different from normal English. The differences are mainly reflected on the choice of vocabulary, sentence structures and rhetorical devices. The globalization of world economy makes advertising English and its translation more significant. This thesis introduces the linguistic features of advertising English from lexical, syntactic and rhetoric angles. And it also introduces some translation strategies for English advertising through the analyses on some examples.
