摘要

苔丝是英国批判现实主义作家哈代的作品中最震撼人心灵的悲剧女性，她的生命虽然短暂，但她身上所具有的美德和爱是人性中最有价值的东西，永远不会毁灭。本文通过对《德伯家的苔丝》悲剧命运的缘由进行解析，从苔丝本身、社会、品德、宗教和法令等方面的原因为起点，剖析致使苔丝悲惨命运的根源。通过苔丝，我们也可以看到在那个时代女性社会地位的低下，这体现出现代女性保持经济独立和具有反抗精神的重要性。
