A Comparative Study of the Family Values Between China and US

摘要

随着对外开放的不断加深，中国与世界的联系愈加密切，从中也获益匪浅。但是，与此同时，一些问题也呈现在人们面前，文化差异便是其中一个。文化差异包括语言差异、行为差异、家庭观差异等诸多方面。其中，家庭差异是一个典型的样例。作为组成人类社会的最基本的单位，家庭是社会系统中必不可少的一部分，同时也是社会生活一个重要的缩影。而家庭观则是建立在家庭的基础上形成的一种文化价值观，它也是文化价值观研究体系的核心。但由于历史、传统文化、地理位置、经济结构等方面的差异，家庭观也因民族而异。因而，家庭成员的习惯，行为也各不相同。

文章通过对比分析的方法研究中美两国的家庭观差异，主要包括婚姻差异和家庭教育差异。通过研究学习，增进人们对两国家庭价值观的了解，同时也有助于人们对文化差异持有正确的态度，避免不必要的冲突和误解。

Abstract

With the deepening of its opening-up, China is having close contact with the outside world. In the process of opening-up, China has and will have benefited a lot from it. However, in the meantime, many problems have been exposed to the public, for example, the cultural differences which include the language, behavior, family values and so on. Among them, family values are a typical example of cultural differences. As is known to all, family as the fundamental unit which forms the whole society is an indispensable part of social system, and also an epitome of social life. With that, Family values are formed on this basis. It is not merely one of the cultural values but also the core of the research of cultural values. 

The essay does research into the differences of family cultures between China and America by comparison analysis, mainly including marriage values and family education. For marriage values, the article will discuss the concepts of marriage both in China and America from three aspects which are the attitudes towards marriage, the conjugal relationship and the status of women in marriage. For family education, the article analyzes the differences from three aspects which are the aims, the methods and the contents of family education. Then, the reasons for the differences will be explained from the influence of history, traditional culture, geography and economic modes. By studying on the differences, it can enhance the understanding of the family culture in China and America, and also do help to hold an right attitude to the cross-cultural differences.
