A Comparative Research on the Difference in Dressing Culture Between China and Britain

摘要

跨文化交流现在已经成为一个重要的话题，人们也更加重视跨文化交流所带来的影响，因此，学习他国文化了解他国历史习俗是必不可少的。文化是一个总的概念，还可以分为饮食文化，服饰文化，家庭文化，禁忌文化，宠物文化等等。服饰文化是人们热切关注的一大文化类型，因为服饰是人类发展史上必不可少之物，是人类衣食住行中不可缺少的一部分。本文探讨了服饰的起源的各种说法，其中包括服饰的遮羞说和图腾说，并且分别介绍了中英文化的特征，从中英服装的色彩，造型，配饰等方面的不同点进行深入探讨，并从实用功能，社会功能等方面分析了中英服饰文化的相同点。通过了解中英之间的服饰文化差异，在跨文化交际中，才能穿着得体的服装，进而能够促进国际间的交流合作与发展。并且，本文认为当今中国服饰的发展不仅要学习英国的先进文化，也要注重本民族的文化，求同存异，从而丰富全人类的文化。

Abstract

Cross-cultural communication now has become an important topic. People pay more attention to the effects of intercultural communication. It is indispensable for us to study other countries' culture and understand other countries' history and customs. Culture is a general concept, and can be divided into diet culture, dressing culture, family culture, taboo culture, pet culture and so on. Dressing culture is one of people’s focus, for clothing play the important role in people’s lives. They are one of the necessities of people’s lives which include clothes, food, shelters and transportations. This text discusses the various views of the origin of clothing, such as the view of conceal one’s disgrace of dressing and the view of totems of dressing. The thesis introduces the characteristics of Chinese and British culture and compares the differences and similarities of china and Britain from their clothes’ colors, modeling, accessories, utility functions and social functions. In cross-culture communication, wearing a set of decent clothes are very important, which can promote the friendly relations and cooperation and development among countries. This thesis considers that Chinese should not only learn British advanced culture but also cherish our own culture. Mixing the two cultures together, thus it can rich all human’s culture.
