A Comparative Study of Air Crash News in China Daily and The New York Times from the Lexical Perspective

摘要

随着世界全球化的发展，信息技术的普遍应用，新闻越来越呈现国际化的特征：传播快，受众广，影响大，为世界性的信息交流做着不可磨灭的贡献。新闻文体也越来越受到研究者的青睐，研究成果层出不穷。然而，研究发现在新闻文本的众多类型中，政治新闻，战争新闻等多作为研究对象，灾难性新闻较少受到关注。基于这一点，本论文尝试选择灾难新闻中的空难新闻作为研究对象。

究竟中美俩国媒体在国际性灾难事件的报道上有何异同呢？本文选取中美俩大报纸《中国日报》和《纽约日报》作为研究对象，从其官方网站上搜集了2014年以来数个重大空难事件的报道，建立中,美俩个各30000多字的语料库，借助数据库处理系统AntConc进行对比分析。通过从词汇角度进行的比较分析，作者发现了相似之处，同时也存在一些差异，并探究异同背后的原因，提出相应的解读策略，以期对新闻读者提高阅读效率，认清新闻事实，新闻作者认识自身不足，不断进步有所帮助。并且希望该研究能够丰富新闻文本的研究，为今后的研究提供参考价值。

Abstract

With the development of globalization and widely use of information technology, news transforms quickly, accesses to more readers, has a great influence. The news discourse has drawn much attention in academic field and many achievements have been made. However, in the previous study, we found the political news, war news are much likely to be chosen as objects of research instead of the disaster news. For this reason, the author attempts to select air crash news as object and carries out an analysis.

In this thesis, the disaster news from the two famous newspapers China Daily and The New York Times is selected for comparative analysis. To make this thesis well-founded and convincing, the writer collects a large number of news items from the official websites of the two newspapers and builds two corpora, each of which contains about 30000 words. With the aids of corpus analysis program AntConc, a detailed analysis at the level of lexical is carried out, some similarities as well as differences have been perceived. What is more, this thesis tries to explore the causes arousing the lexical differences. 

The purposes of this thesis are to indicate the similarities and differences on air crash news between China Daily and The New York Times. The writers revels the reasons to lead to the difference. Bearing of similarities and differences in mind, the news readers will be more efficient in their reading, writers will be more conscious of their writing. What is more, I hope this thesis would make a supplement for the research on news discourse and do any favor for the following researchers.
