摘要

模糊性是外交辞令的一个鲜明特征，是外交官为了维护本国利益，与其他国家建立友好外交关系的一种策略，所以世界各国都会在自身的外交辞令中使用模糊语。模糊语的使用可以提高语言表达的效率和准确性，增强语言表达的灵活性， 使语言表达显得更加委婉、含蓄、礼貌。在外交语言中恰当地使用模糊语不仅会显得有礼有节，而且可以在复杂多变的国际关系中获得主动，收到意想不到的结果。

本论文以模糊语为研究对象，选取《外交事务》、《华盛顿邮报》、《纽约时报》等权威报刊以及其他与美国外交相关的语料，对其进行语用分析。研究发现模糊语在美国外交辞令中主要有以下三大作用：掩饰真相、表达立场、打破僵局。总之美国外交辞令中模糊语的运用，是为了维护美国的大国形象，巩固美国的大国地位，保障自身的国家利益。希望本论文能够在美国外交辞令的语言特点方面为后续研究提供参考。
