简要分析《无声告白》中的华裔形象

A Brief Analysis of Chinese American Images in Everything I Never Told You 

摘要：本文将重点研究20世纪80年代美国华裔的身份认同困境，在跨国家庭的悲剧之下，《无声告白》反映了文化间不可调和的冲突导致的负面结果。运用霍夫斯泰德文化理论从权力距离和人际关系概念两方面来分析小说中的华裔形象，可以清楚地解释美籍华裔在文化交际中存在困境的原因，从而证明文化差异是固有存在且难以解决的。而较之其他较早时期的美籍华裔文学作品，《无声告白》同样反映了作者对华裔困境的哲思: 一味的追求文化的统一性不利于解决文化差异带来的问题，只有坚持双方的文化交流，彼此尊重且接受差异性的存在才能让社会中的少数族群正确定位自己的身份。

Abstract: This thesis will focus on the dilemma of identity among Chinese Americans in the 1980s. Beneath the tragedy of a cross-national family, Everything I Never Told You reflects the negative results that are caused by irreconcilable conflicts between cultures. Using Hofstede Cultural Theory to analyze the contradictory Chinese American images in the novel from power distance and concept of personal relationships can clearly demonstrate the reason why Chinese Americans’ dilemma exists during cultural intercourse and thus illustrates the idea that cultural differences are inherent and hardly to be solved. Compared this novel with other Chinese American literary works before, Everything I Never Told You also reflects the author’s philosophical speculation about Chinese Americans’ dilemma: simply pursuit of the unity of cultures has no benefits to solve the problems that caused by cultural differences. Only to insist on the bilaterally cultural communication, respect each other and accept the differences can make the minorities in society identify themselves accurately.
