摘要

中西方文化比较一直是经济全球化浪潮之下的一个热议的学术话题。从其研究领域、研究方法、研究对象、研究角度也是在不断地更新。本文亦从文化比较的角度，着眼于范围较小的中英文化，以两个文化中共有的一个文化意象“船”作为研究对象进行对比研究。

论文旨在从符号意象角度分析“船”意象在中国文化中和英语文化中各自的体现和特征、其在两种文化中各自的所指、象征意义和文化内涵，以及这个意象在不同环境中对各自文化的影响。对文化作品中船这一文化现象进行分析和比较，有层次有条理地客观分析“船”意象在中英两种文化中的特征与内涵。

论文研究表明，船在中英文化中带着多重意义，在某种程度上它是一种精神象征与寄托，寄托希望，寄托救赎，寄托哀思，是两个截然不同的世界的连结物的象征。论文最后总结了船这一意象对中英文化所产生的影响和意义。
