A Comparative Analysis of Family Education of China and America in Battle Hymn of the Tiger mother

Abstract

The publication of Battle Hymn of the Tiger mother caused great sensation in China and other countries. As the second generation of American immigrants of Chinese origin, after considering the Sino-American family education, Tiger Mother chose traditional Chinese family education and received good results. It also triggered discussions on family education in China and the United States. Therefore, this thesis uses the literature method and contrast method, based on the understanding of family education, to explore the differences between family education in China and the United States, the educational methods of tiger mothers, and the inspirations to current family education methods.

This thesis consists of four parts: The first part introduces the theory of family education, including the connotation, purpose and main content of family education. The second part mainly introduces tiger mother's family education, including the purpose, method and effect of her family education. The third part mainly introduces the difference between family education in China and the United States, including the reasons for the difference in family education between the two countries, and the differences in the content and results of family education in the two countries. The fourth part mainly focuses on the respective advantages of family education in the two countries, including the merits of American family education and the merits of Chinese family education, in order to sum up the inspirations for modern family education.

Tiger mother's education model is worth consideration and drawing lessons from. The parents' expectation for children is worthy of recognition. The cultural differences between China and the United States determine the difference in education methods. Parents should understand the nature of family education and proceed from the actual situation and educate their children according to their own characteristics. I hope this article will provide some inspiration for parents to implement family education.
