Eco-feministic Interpretation of Anne of Green Gables
Abstract
Anne of Green Gables is one of the classic works of Canadian authoress Lucy Maud Montgomery in the late nineteenth Century. This novel depicts the protagonist Anne, trying to escape from the restrictions of patriarchal society on women through rich imagination, but she finally became a respected female teacher by loving nature, loving life and striving for self-improvement.
This article first interprets the children's novel Anne of Green Gables from the perspective of ecology, read the works from the perspective of ecological beauty, naming principles, scenery subjects and ecological perspective.
Then, from the angle of eco-feminism, discussed the relationship between women and nature in Anne of Green Gables, shows that women are closely related to nature, and have more natural communication and spiritual integration. At the same time, this article pointed out that women are oppressed under patriarchal system, but they have deconstructed the bondage of women in patriarchal society by fighting for equality. By describing Anne's attitude towards nature and her attitude towards life, the novel realizes the ingenious combination of ecology and feminism. The protagonist's growth process explains the author's transcendental eco-feminism: Only the equal coexistence between human and nature and the love between men and women can build a harmonious society.
