Applications of Euphemism in Business Communication under Politeness Principle

摘要

委婉语是一种语言现象，也是一种文化现象，礼貌原则是会话的指导原则。在委婉语定义和分类的基础上，本文首先阐述委婉语和礼貌原则的关系，然后采用例证法，在礼貌原则视角下探讨委婉语在商务沟通中的应用。最后本文得出结论：英语中委婉语的使用反映了人们遵循了礼貌原则，促进了商务沟通，有助于商品贸易的顺利开展。

Abstract

Euphemism, also called cosmetic word, is not only a social lingual phenomenon，but also a kind of cultural phenomenon. The politeness principle guides people how to make conversations.  On the basis of the definition and classification of euphemism, this paper firstly attempts to explore the relations of politeness principle and euphemism, and then this paper uses the method of case analysis to analyze the applications of euphemism in business communication under politeness principle. Finally, it is concluded that the use of euphemism reflects that people follow the politeness principle, which promotes the business communication. It is contributed to the success of business trade.
