Application of Phonics to English Vocabulary Teaching for Preschool Children
Abstract
As one of the most basic contents of English learning, vocabulary learning has a direct impact on the children's Second language acquisition. However, in preschool children’s English class, some children have some difficulties in pronouncing, recognizing words and memorizing words. Phonics, as a way in which English native speakers learn English, can effectively help children solve the problem of vocabulary learning.
With the prospect to seek the effective way in teaching preschool children vocabulary, to help kids recognize and memorize English words, and to be conducive to the English vocabulary teaching for preschool children, this paper mainly studies the application of phonics to English vocabulary teaching for preschool children, and tries to analyze how to improve the effectiveness and efficiency of preschool children’s vocabulary learning from the aspect of training and cultivating phonemic awareness. Within four chapters, the first part, basing on the questionnaires, analyzes the difficulties and problems in English vocabulary teaching for preschool children. The second part explains the relative theories and researches about phonics. The next part discusses the teaching contents and teaching instructions of phonics, including phonemic awareness, phonological awareness, letter names letter sounds, step by step learning, multisensory teaching and TPR teaching with citing lots of practical examples. And the last part explores the results after applying phonics and some notifications when applying phonics.
