西苏身体写作理论关照下的德拉布尔小说《瀑布》剖析_英语论文

An analysis of Drabble’s novel--- The Waterfall in the light of Cixous’ “bodily writing” theory 

摘要

本文分析的重点是在西苏“身体写作”理论的关照下，探讨玛格丽特·德拉布尔的小说《瀑布》中的女性主义。《瀑布》被认为是德拉布尔关注女性在父权社会中生存境况的一个代表，记录了女主人公简·格雷通过和姐夫詹姆斯的性爱体验，回归对母亲这个身份的认同，并释放对原始爱欲的追求，重新拾回女性创造力。本文主要将引用西苏“用白色的墨汁写作”的观点，分析简对母亲身份的回归；用西苏“女性用身体写作”的观点，分析简对爱欲的回归；用西苏“女性返回到自己的身体，通过写作来解除对其性特征和女性存在的抑制关系”的观点，分析简对女性话语的回归。德拉布尔在《瀑布》中以描述怀孕、哺乳等女性生命体验的诗性话语，使女性主体发出自己的声音。

Abstract

This paper focuses on the analysis of feminism shown in Margaret Drabble’s novel The Waterfall in the light of Cixous’ “bodily writing” theory. The Waterfall is considered a representative of Drabble’s concern about the living conditions of women in a patriarchal society. It records the heroine Jane Gray to return to the mother-identity, release the pursuit of original love, and regain her female creativity through sexual experience with her cousin’s husband James. This paper will mainly analyze Jane’s return to the identity of mother referring to Cixous’ view of writing with white ink, explore Jane’s return to sexual desire referring to Cixous’ view of women using their bodies to write, and study Jane’s return to female discourse referring to Cixous’ view of women returning to their bodies, and relieving inhibition of their sexual character and existence by writing. Drabble makes women’s voice heard in The Waterfall by describing pregnancy, lactation and other female life experience with poetic language.
