Influence of Personality on Spoken English in SLA

Abstract
In recent years, spoken English becomes more and more important against the extensive communication between countries. With the increasing demand of the society posed on undergraduates, a lot of second language acquisition researchers begin to pay more attention to the ways to develop oral expressions. This paper presents an initiative probe into the correlated influence of personality upon spoken English by means of analyzing the features of spoken English out of the interview and case-tracking study of two seniors who show different characters. The author, after making a comparison of their oral expression, finds that pronunciation has nothing to do with introvert and extrovert characters; rather, tempo and complexity as well as word choice have slight differences. Combined with the analysis of their interview, investigation also shows the mental states and attention paid on producing a sentence caused by personality play an important role in the apparent differences of oral expression, which may give some pedagogical implications concerning helping students develop oral competence.
