摘要

《红字》作为纳撒尼尔·霍桑的代表著作；它不仅具有美国浪漫主义小说的特点，同时也有浓厚的宗教背景。本文主要分析从圣经中衍生出的堕落与救赎在《红字》这本经典小说中的体现；着重分析其在主要人物身上的体现。《红字》作为霍桑最为经典的作品，其对于清教主义的思考，在19世纪显得尤为可贵。本文通过分析《红字》里的堕落与救赎，了解霍桑在19世纪美国清教主义与浪漫主义的双重影响下对这一主题的态度。同时，明确霍桑对于圣经思想的继承。

Abstract

The Scarlet Letter as Nathaniel Hawthorne's representative work; it not only has the characteristics of American romantic novels, but also has a strong religious background. This essay mainly focuses on the analysis of the relationship between a classic novel Scarlet Letter and fall and redemption deriving from the Bible, especially I discuss how the fall and redemption have shown on the main characters. As the most influential novel of Nathaniel Hawthorne, the Scarlet Letter is very special in the 19th century in term of the attitude towards the Puritanism. The analysis of fall and redemption in the Scarlet Letter makes us know more about the attitude of Hawthorne in the 19th century towards the fall and redemption under the dual influence of Puritanism and romanticism. Also, he inherited the thoughts of the Bible.
