摘要

《红字》是恐怖的悲剧。它例证了当人们陷入挣扎的精神状态时会有多悲惨。而其来自罪恶的和不合法的罪孽。具体讲，此处罪孽为通奸，直接导致了三位相关者承受着不同的结果。在我看来，丁梅斯代尔是遭受最多的。因其有着明显且强烈的自我、本我和超我。此三者常互相斗争，导致丁梅斯代尔内心充满冲突。他的面貌和姿势也相应地日益表现出他所承受的折磨。最后，他死于超我的高度道德要求。

Abstract 

The Scarlet Letter is a horrible tragedy, which exemplifies how miserable it could be when people are trapped in a straggling mental state which is due to a sinful and illegal crime. To be specific, here the crime is an adultery which makes three directly related people suffer different consequences. Among them is Dimmesdale who suffers the most in my opinion. The reason is that he has evident and strong id, ego and superego. These three personalities often fight with each other. As a consequence, there are conflicts in the inner world of Dimmesdale. Accordingly, his appearance and gesture increasingly show the torture he has burdened. At last, he died of his high morality required by his superego.
