摘要

纳撒尼尔霍桑是一位象征主义大师。《好小伙布朗》则是霍桑所著的著名的短篇小说。小说中充满了象征主义的运用和晦涩的隐喻。 这表明了在这则故事中，不同的颜色，任务，场景设置等都有着更深刻的意义。本篇论文的目的就是通过分析小说中的人，物，行为，场景和主题所象征的意义来探寻作者所布置的更深层次的思想。包括作者对清教主义的态度以及对人性本恶的思考。

Abstract

Nathaniel Hawthorne is a master of symbolism. Young Goodman Brown is one of the most famous short stories written by Nathaniel Hawthorne. The story is full of symbolism and allegorization, which means in this story, different colors, characters, events and scene settings are representing other deeper meanings. The aim of this paper is to analyze the symbolism of abundant characters, scene settings, theme and object and behaviors to find out deeper meanings in this story，including Hawthorne’s attitudes about Puritism and human’s evil nature.
