摘 要
汉语成语经历了历史的长期考验, 都富有生命力, 短小精悍、形式固定,是汉语中的精华,反映了中华民族文化的特色。从翻译的角度看,要把具有这些特点的成语在译文里恰到好处地表达出来是很不容易的。汉语成语含有丰富的文化信息, 带有鲜明的民族特色, 翻译时要根据其不同内涵特征采用不同的翻译方法, 以保证文化信息传递的有效性。在翻译时,译者应确切、深刻、完整地理解每一个成语的本意和引申义。不能只从字面上望文生义,因此, 在汉英成语互译时应对比其文化和内涵, 考虑直译、意译、套译和混合译等多种译法。本文主要介绍了汉语成语的背景意义,翻译时应注意的问题和一些翻译策略。

Abstract
The Chinese idioms have experienced a long-term test of history,which are full of vitality, dapper, and also are the essence of Chinese, reflecting the characteristics of Chinese culture. From the point of translation, it is necessary to have these characteristics just right to express but it is not easy. The Chinese idiom is rich in cultural information, with distinctive ethnic characteristics; there are different translation methods according to their different connotation characteristics to ensure the validity of the cultural transmission of information. When translating, the translator should be exact, profound and complete understanding of the intention of an idiom and extended meaning. Not only literally. In translation of Chinese and English Idioms, we should compare the culture and meaning, consider the literal translation, liberal translation and mixed translation and other translation. This paper introduces the background of the Chinese idiom meaning, principles and problems of translation and translation strategies.

1 Introduction
1.1 Background
Chinese culture is a long history; the idioms in Chinese vocabulary are colorful, concise, subtle and profound, which is a gem in the Chinese culture. Chinese idioms are experiencing a long-term test of history, which are full of vitality. Most of them come from the historical stories, myths and legends, religious texts and folklore. The language culture between Chinese and English has a lot of similarities. In the English vocabularies, there are considerable numbers of idioms. Chinese and English languages have a variety of idioms, which are created in the process of long-term use of language. The meanings of some idioms are obvious; while some are not and can cause a rich imagination. Because the language and historical backgrounds in Chinese and English are different, and has a different idioms color and characteristics respectively, when we translate them, we should try to keep these characteristics.
