An Aesthetic Approach to Prose Translation
-A Comparative Study of Two English Versions of He Tang Yue Se
Abstract
Prose has a long history, but the studies on prose translation is relatively little. According to the characteristics of prose, "aesthetic translation quality" beyond translation is the most important and the most difficult problem. Generally speaking, the beauty of prose is mainly embodied in its formal and non-formal systems, and the ideal of prose translation is, of course, in order to realize the "aesthetic elements" in the two levels. Both Chinese and English languages have their own characteristics in providing the linguistic traits; therefore, it is not easy to represent the esthetic qualities at all levels.
My paper will choose two versions of He Tang Yue Se which are written by Zhu Chunshen and Yang Xianyi to analyse both the aesthetic subject and aesthetic object. I will compare the two versions in beauty of rhyme, beauty of form, beauty of artistic conception and the translator’s unique translation style. In order to find out which version is more approved.

摘 要
散文有着悠久的历史,但学者对散文翻译的美学研究却远远滞后于散文创作。目前关于散文翻译的美学研究多是评论性或者描述性的文章。基本没有系统的,理论化的研究。散文的“美”的特征在散文翻译中最重要,也是最难解决的问题。由于中西方人的思维方式是不同的,审美观点也相异,再加上中英文语言本身有自己的表达特点。在翻译中,要实现散文多层次的美值得深入研究。
文学翻译是基于文学作品的翻译,美学艺术在传递思想基础上是高层次的表现。翻译美学注重音、形、义的综合表现,注重修辞手段灵活多样和选词新颖的运用,使散文的美得到极大的彰显。在译论中,中国尤其注重美学的探讨,特别是语言的审美。中国美学从很多层面去探讨审美,如意与象、神与形、虚与实和意境、风格、修辞等。论文将选取荷塘月色朱纯深和杨宪益两种译本从审美主体和审美客体两方面分析四个美学效果:音韵美,意境美,形式美,译者的独特翻译风格,比较出拥有更好的美学效果的译本。文章从这四个方面分析朱纯深和杨宪益两种译本的美学效果,归纳总结其运用的翻译策略,对提高其他类似文本的翻译质量有重要意义。
