摘 要
论文旨在分析中国和西方国家在影视翻译理论与实践中的现状,强调文化意象在影视片名翻译中的重要性。本文从文化意象翻译的研究背景和目的入手,着重于文化意象的片名翻译,并在影视翻译的实践方面给出了一些例子。通过大量的实例和分析,阐述文化意象的功能,分析直译和意译的区别及中国电影意象功能的流变,论述文化意象的重构、修润、转换和审美意义。本文重在叙述奈达的等效翻译理论及其它重要的翻译策略。然后论文对中西文化意象在影视片名翻译中的重要性作出了总结,及对影视片名的翻译在今后的研究中提出了一些建议。

Abstract
This paper attempts to analyze the current situation of film translation theory and practice in China and Western countries and emphasize the significance of cultural imagery on movie titles translation. In modern highly development of economy and science and the ever-increasing international cultural exchange, cultural imagery plays a crucial role in movie titles translation. A major thrust of this paper is to discuss approaches and strategies for movie translation. In the first part, this paper starts with the research background and a quantity of reasons and purposes of cultural imagery translation. In the second part, it illustrates the literature review, including document overview and comparative analysis. On the basis of theory foundation, this paper focuses on the title translation of cultural imagery and to give some examples in terms of the practice of movie translation. In the third part, through a large number of examples and analysis, this paper elaborates the functions of cultural imagery, involving cultural factors on movie translation. And it simply clarifies the difference between literal translation and free translation and explains continuous changes of cultural imagery in Chinese movies and also presents reconstruction, modification, conversion and aesthetic meaning of cultural imagery. In the fourth part, this paper centers on the equivalence principle of Eugene A. Nida and other essential strategies as well. In the final part, this paper will make an overall conclusion about the influence of Chinese and Western cultural imagery on movie titles translation, and put forward some suggestions to the translation of movie titles in future research.

1 Introduction
This paper aims to analyze the significance of Chinese and Western cultural imagery on movie titles translation. In this day and age, along with the development of economy and science and the advance of international cultural exchange, the function of cultural dissemination of films cannot be neglected. The transmission of cultural imageries is an indispensable component of cultural transmission. Cultural imageries result from the related cultural environments, thus, there is no doubt that translation is a cross-language and cross-cultural activity. Given the pivotal role that culture-loaded images plays in translation, this paper makes an analysis of the importance of cultural imagery on movie titles translation.
