摘　要

习语是语言的精华与核心，是文化的载体，具有鲜明的文化特色。一般指那些常用在一起，具有特定形式的词组，其蕴含的意义往往不能从词组中单个词的意思推测而得。作为一种语言形式，无论是在书面语中或口语中习语都有它自己的特色和形式。习语的形式很宽广，其中包括了各种各样形式，比如说谚语、成语和典故等。除此之外，不同的名族有不同的文化背景，所以这些因素导致很难给习语下一个定义。习语翻译是翻译中所遇到的最棘手的问题之一。《红楼梦》是我国一部古典名著，书中语言生动形象，有大量的习语且具有丰富而深邃的民族文化内涵和民族文化特色。如何翻译这些富含文化信息的习语，使其表现形式音节优美，音律协调，或含蓄幽默，或严肃典雅，言简意赅，形象生动，给人一种美的享受是翻译的难点所在。为了解决这些难题，本文将根据习语的定义、特征和文化背景来探讨《红楼梦》中习语的不同翻译方法，旨在通过对具体译例的剖析，来分析习语翻译过程中应该如何选择合适的翻译方法。

Abstract

Embodying cultural peculiarity, idioms are the essence and core of language. Idioms generally refer to those phrases that we often use words together with a specific form. The idiom’s meaning often can not be speculated from the one single word’s meaning. As a language form, idioms have its own characteristic and patterns whether in written language or oral language. Idioms range very widely, which contain variety of forms, such as proverbs, phrases and allusions etc. In addition to, different nations have different background. So these factors bring difficulty to define an idiom. The translation of idioms is one of the hardest nuts to crack in translation. A Dream of Red Mansions is a China’s classical masterpieces. The language in book is very vivid. There are a large number of idioms with abundant connotation and features of national culture. The difficult point of translation is just how to translate the idioms with abundant cultural information and make the form of expression have beautiful syllable, temperament coordination, or subtle humor, serious or elegant, concise and clear, vivid image and how to give people the enjoyment of beautiful. In order to solve these problems, the paper will according the idiom’s definition, characteristic and cultural background to study the different translation ways of the idioms in A Dream of Red Mansions. It aims to analyze how to choose the suited translation methods in the process of idioms translation through analyzing the concrete examples.

1 Introduction
This paper will according to the idiom’s definition, characteristic and cultural background to study the different translation ways of the idioms in A Dream of Red Mansions. In the following, I will introduce the translation strategies of idioms and the main translation ways of idioms in A Dream of Red Mansions in details. This paper divides into four parts: introduction, the ways of idioms, analyzing the idioms in A Dream of Red Mansions and the conclusion. We study the cultural differences in Chinese and English idioms, it is useful to us to understand different historic culture and communicate with other non-English-speaking countries. It also can promote the relation between China and England.
