Abstract and Key Words

Abstract: With the growing communication between East and the West, the Western movies have played a more and more important role in the modern life of Chinese people. And this really calls for good translation of the western movie titles, for it is not merely the transferring from one language to another, but also a communication between different countries and cultures. This paper aims to study the translation of Western movie titles from the cultural perspective. It takes some movie title translations as examples and makes an analysis of the main cause of poor translation，and thus emphasizes the great importance of culture factors in movie title translation.

摘要：随着东西方文化交流的日趋频繁，西方电影已在当代中国人的生活中扮演了不可或缺的角色。这就需要优秀的西方电影片名的翻译，因为这种翻译不仅仅是由一种语言转换为另一种语言，也是不同国家和文化之间的一种交流。本论文的主要研究目的在于从文化的视角探索西方电影片名的翻译，以一些西方电影名的译本为例，并分析了错误翻译的主要原因，强调了文化因素在电影片名翻译中的重要性。

1. Introduction
With the growing communication between the East and the West, western movies have played a more and more important role in the modern life of Chinese people. In modern society, things such as Hollywood blockbusters and Oscar Awards have become hot topics in people’s talk.
A good movie besides good actors, excellent script and colorful movie screen, also needs a good movie title. Movie titles could not only arouse audience’s curiosity, deepen their impression of the movie , but also improve the income of the box-office, thus a perfect movie title is the combination of both aesthetic value and business value.
In general, a proper translation of the western movie title is full of significance. On one hand, it can appropriately reflect the aim and spirit of the original；and on the other hand, it can improve the cultural communication between the East and the West. So translators should pay much attention to it and do their best to translate it better.
