Abstract and Key Words

Abstract: This paper studies the formation and translation of journalistic English neologisms for a better understanding of journalistic English language. Language, as an open system, changes with the developing society, while vocabulary is the most active part of language and it is a mirror of social culture and very sensitive to the changes in social life. Therefore new things emerge and correspondingly new words are coined by the public which add as fresh new blood to vocabulary. News media as a tool for communication and a channel for information transmitted has become an important source of English neologisms.

摘要：本文拟从新闻英语新词新语的构词方法和翻译策略作探索，以便对对新闻英语语言有更好的理解。语言是一个开放的系统，它随着社会的不断发展而发展和变化，是反映社会变迁的晴雨表。在不断发展变化着的语言各要素中，词汇又是最活跃、最敏感、最具代表性、最具开放性、同时也最具时代意义的要素。新闻媒体作为交流传播信息的工具和载体，是日新月异的当今社会政治、经济、科技、文化乃至社会生活等各个触角的最佳表现渠道，记录了现代社会发展的进程，已经成为新词的重要来源和展示平台。英语作为世界性的语言在媒体领域更是占据了重要地位。

1. Introduction 
As known to all, the language itself is experiencing endless changes and developments with the advance of society. Neologisms are the creature of an age and at the same time reflects the features of the age. In other words, neologisms are the mirror of social development. In the 21st century, modern science and technology are developing day and night. English, as one of international languages, is widely used in world trade and new technologies. The number of the new words increases with an unbelievable speed every year. Compared with decades ago, Modern English has been largely widened in its covering ability. All changes and new things brought by them are best represented in mass media which include newspapers, magazines, TV, radios. News, serving as one of the most important mass communications, is getting more and more closely related to human life. It has been related almost to all the parts of social life including science and technology, education, economy, culture, public health, sports and environment protection. The news translation inevitably plays an important role in information communications. Most of the neologisms first appear in news reports then have gradually been accepted and used by people. Therefore, for a better understanding of news and social development, it is important for Chinese learners of English to know the formation and translation of journalistic English neologisms.
