摘要

本文主要研究中式思维对公示语汉译英产生的影响。通过分析四种不同的中式思维模式，我们发现在公示语翻译过程中，中式思维往往会导致译者忽视文化内涵，产生多种语用错误。公示语作为提供生活指示信息的有效载体，代表了城市和国家的形象，然而，由于一些原因却导致公示语的翻译错误屡见不鲜。本文通过分析中式思维对公示语翻译造成的消极影响，阐述了翻译过程中出现的字面翻译、语法错误、搭配混乱、文化缺失问题，并提出培养英式思维模式、加强英语技能培训等解决方案，以改善和提高公示语的翻译质量。

Abstract

This thesis discusses the impact of Chinese thinking modes on translation of public signs. From analyzing four different kinds of Chinese thinking modes, we learn that in the process of C-E translation of public signs, translators often ignore cultural differences and make various pragmatic mistakes that result from Chinese thinking modes. Public signs are the carriers of directive information, which represent cities and even our country. However, there are a number of problems in translation of public signs for several reasons. Through analyzing negative impact caused by Chinese thinking modes, we explain several problems, including word for word translation, grammatical errors, collocational errors, and cultural default. Then, we put forward some possible solutions, such as cultivating English thinking modes, strengthening studies of linguistic knowledge, etc, to improve the quality of public sign translation.

1. Introduction 
1.1 The definition of public signs
Signs refers to a piece of paper, wood or metal that has writing or a picture on it that give you information, instructions, a warning, etc. (A.S. Hornby 2004: 1626 ) Public signs, similar to logos, notices and labels, are signs of specific genres used in public facilities, including accommodation, recreation, shopping, traveling, medical service, transportation, etc. Public signs are very important to regulate social workers’ behaviours, adjust interpersonal relations, increase productivity, deter crimes, stimulate motivation, optimize quality of life, and build a harmonious society.
