Abstract:

Foreign trade correspondence plays an important role in international business. Vague language exists broadly in different kinds of business foreign trade correspondence, it helps to improve the flexibility highly and make the business letters more polite. This study aims to help people know well about the necessity of vague language in business letters, the intention of using vague language and the meaning behind this phenomenon the translating skills and its pragmatic functions, so that it can be used to make international communication more smooth and efficient.

摘要：

外贸函电的写作在国际贸易往来中起着举足轻重的作用。模糊语广泛存在于各类商务信函中,并且能在很大程度上提高语言表达的灵活性,使商务信函更加礼貌得体。本文通过对模糊语在六大类常见外贸函电翻译应用中的研究，旨在帮助人们更深刻、准确地理解模糊语在商务信函中存在的必然性、使用模糊语言的意图和这一现象背后的含义以及其语用功能,从而通过适度、有意地使用模糊语言来使国际商务交际更加顺畅高效。

1.Introduction
Foreign trade correspondence refers to the act of communicating by means of letters or the letters which pass between correspondents. As an important part of international business communication tool, foreign trade correspondence enjoys a clear advantage of being accurate, efficient, convincing and time-saving. In traditional correspondence writing, we always abide by the principle of seven “Cs”, that’s, consideration, courtesy, clarity, correctness, conciseness, concreteness, completeness. Vague language is not “bad” or“ good” completely, it depends on how to use it in a suitable way. That’s to say, if vague language is applied properly, foreign trade correspondence may help to realize some communicative purposes in business communication that leads to unexpected success .
