Abstract

Language is a tool for people to communicate and it reflects the transformation of society. English as a tool of communication is most widely used in now world. With the rapid development of politics, economy, science and technology, English also changes very fast. A large number of English neologisms come out. More and more people pay attention to the research of English neologisms. In order to keep up with the development of modern society and better communicate with the world, we Chinese should also focus more on the research of English neologisms.
This paper analyzes the formation and translation strategies of English neologisms. It mainly introduces five ways of the formation of English neologisms. The first is that English neologisms are formed by putting existing words to new use. The second is that English neologisms are formed by combining existing words or word parts. The third is that English neologisms are formed by shortening existing words or expressions. The fourth is loanwords. The last is coinage. What’s more, this paper introduces four translation strategies of English neologisms. They are literal translation, free translation, transliteration and combination of transliteration and free translation. This paper can help English learners to be more interested in English, learn about the formation and translation strategies of English neologisms , and know more about the western culture.

摘 要

语言作为交流的一种工具，在一定程度地上反映了社会的变革。英语是世界上现在应用最广的语言交流工具，随着政治、经济、文化、科技的不断发展，英语也不断地变化发展着，英语新词也随之大量的出现。人们越来越意识到对英语新词研究的重要性和必要性，因此，研究英语新词的人也越来越多。如果想要跟上现代社会快速发展的步伐，保持与世界的良好沟通，促进本国政治、经济、科技的进一步发展，我们也应当更加重视对英语新词的研究。
本文主要对英语新词的构成及其翻译策略进行研究。首先简单介绍英语新词的产生原因及其发展，然后分析英语新词的五种主要的构词方法，再对英语新词的四种翻译策略进行分析，最后对本文做一个总结。本文希望通过此研究，能激发英语学习者对英语的学习兴趣，帮助英语学习者更好的了解英语新词，掌握英语新词的构成方法和翻译策略，进一步地了解西方文化和更好的与世界交流沟通，从而促进社会的进一步发展。
