Abstract: Context is an environment used by people when the communication occurs, and an important factor to determine the understanding and use of language. The use of language is inseparable from context. Translation naturally can not be separated from the context as well. Translation is a means of information exchange between different languages and a means of cross-cultural communication which has a close relation with context. In 1990s, some translation theorists put forward the concept of "context". Since then the importance of context in translation has drawn more and more people’s attention. This article focuses on the relationship between context and translation, with the purpose of making the translator recognize the importance of context in translation and actively and correctly connecting translation with context, through the introduction of context and some typical translation examples relating to context.

摘  要：语境是交际发生时被人们实际所使用的环境，是决定语言理解和使用的重要因素。语言的使用离不开语境，以语言为对象的翻译工作自然也离不开语境。翻译作为不同语言间信息交流的手段，作为跨文化的交际活动，与语境有着密切的联系。20 世纪90年代翻译理论界植入了“语境”的概念，语境在翻译中的重要性也越来越得到关注。本文主要围绕语境与翻译的关系，希望通过对语境的介绍和翻译实例证明使译者认识到语境在翻译中的重要性，主动和正确使用语境进行翻译实践。

Context plays a very important role in translation activities. This paper focuses on the discussion of the relationship between context and translation and the explanatory function of context.
Although context is a very important issue in linguistics, the study of context keeps in a static stage for a long time and mainly involves the discussion of the definition, characteristics, classification of context. With further research, it is found that the present studies of context have not explained many problems. In addition, although context plays an important role in translation which has been accepted by theorists, translators are not very familiar with the context theory and its application, especially the application of the explanatory function of context. Therefore the purpose of the study in this paper is to provide a comprehensive explanation of context and to emphasize the important status and role of context in translation. The author of the thesis will make an effort to raise translators’ awareness of context so as to well connect translation with context.
