ABSTRACT

 With the deepening development of the culture exchange between China and Western countries, the movie plays an important role in this process as a crucial culture carrier. English and American films flow over into the domestic market, bringing the audience with both great enjoyment and colorful western culture. 
Subtitle translation is a crucial part in the process of making full use of the culture spreading function of movies. Subtitle translation is a challenging task for the differences in culture and language. Comparing with other kinds of translation, subtitle translation requires more for a translator, such as flexibility and knowledge. There are still many problems in subtitle translation field. It can not satisfy the audience’s needs because of no professional team and authoritative norms. It also leads to a disordered situation of subtitle translation, with translating versions of uneven quality. That problem attracts more and more experts and translators to put their attention to it. How to regulate subtitle translation and give a relatively perfect strategy is just the problem many translators have been thinking for long time.
   This article, based on the previous film subtitling researches, will adopt Nida's functional equivalence theory, one of well-known translation theories in translation field, to make film subtitle translation strategy research. First, the characteristics and limitations of subtitle will be analyzed in detail. Secondly, I will analyze specific problems in today’s subtitle translation field. Finally, with examples, the author will give relatively perfect movie subtitle translation strategy based on functional equivalence theory. The research conducted in this paper will not only improve subtitles translation but also help us to have a better understanding and application of translation theory. I sincerely hope that this research can provide some useful lessons for translation and attract more experts and scholars to devote themselves to this field.

摘  要

伴随着中西方文化交流的不断加深，电影作为现代传媒的一个重要文化载体，在这个过程中扮演着重要的角色。英美电影大量的进入国内电影市场，在给广大观众的闲暇生活带来乐趣的同时也让大家领略到了西方国家多彩的文化及不同于中国的风土人情。
   电影字幕翻译在电影文化传播功能的发挥过程中扮演者极其重要的角色。由于语言和文化上的差异，以及电影字幕本身的一些特点和限制性因素导致电影字幕翻译具有一定的难度。和其他的文本翻译相比，电影字幕翻译要求译者的灵活性更强，知识面更广。就目前的电影字幕翻译领域而言，还存在着许多问题。由于缺乏专业的团队和相关的权威性规范，导致电影字幕翻译水平参差不齐，不能满足广大观众的需求。这一情况已经渐渐开始吸引了许多专家和译者的注意力，如何规范电影字幕翻译，如何给出一个相对完善的字幕翻译策略，正是许多译者在思考的问题。
   本文基于前人对电影字幕翻译的研究成果之上，将运用著名翻译理论家奈达的功能对等理论对电影字幕翻译策略进行研究。首先，具体分析电影字幕具有哪些特点和限制性因素；其次，分析现在的电影字幕翻译领域存在哪些具体的问题；最后，结合实例，根据功能对等理论提出完善电影字幕翻译的策略。本文所进行的研究不仅对提高电影字幕翻译水平有所裨益，同时也有利于我们更深入的理解和运用翻译理论。希望通过本文的努力能够为完善英美电影字幕翻译策略提供一些有益借鉴，并吸引更多的专家学者来关注这一领域的发展。
