Abstract

In recent years, China becomes more and more international and attracts more attention of the world. As more and more international visitors came to China, the bilingual public signs begin to play a more and more important role. This is not only reflected in the public language for people to know the role of the sign, but also reflected in the significance of promoting China’s international image and popularity. However, in fact, there are many wrong problems existing in the translation of public signs. This will not only cause social disorder, but also bring negative influence to China international influence and status. Therefore, the translation of public signs is an urgent problem to be solved.
Based on the above reasons, the author tries to analyze the problems of English and Chinese translation from the perspective of politeness principle. In theory, the author puts forward to the politeness principle on public signs translation which has an important guiding role. The politeness principle is first proposed by the British linguist Geoffrey Leech. It contains six rules: Tact Maxim, Generosity Maxim, Approbation Maxim, Modesty Maxim, Agreement Maxim, Sympathy Maxim.
Translators have to consider the language from all aspects; the transmission of cultural information is to be widely accepted by the public. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce the concept of politeness principle in the study of the translation of public signs.

摘要

日益国际化的中国比以往更加吸引全世界的目光。随着越来越多的国际友人来到中国，双语公示语的重要作用开始出现。这不仅体现在公示语对人们的告示知道作用上，在中国的国际形象和知名度提升方面也有重要作用。然而，实际情况是，公示语翻译中存在着种种错误的问题。这不仅会造成社会混乱，也对中国的国际影响和地位带来负面影响。因此，中国的公示语的翻译是亟待解决的问题。
基于以上原因，笔者试图分析从礼貌原则的角度对英语和汉语公示语翻译的一些问题。在理论上，礼貌原则对于公示语的翻译有着重要的指导作用。礼貌原则是英国语言学家杰弗里·利奇提出的，它包含六条准则：得体准则，慷慨准则，赞誉准则，谦逊准则，一致准则和同情准则。-笔者认为在公示语翻译中应当使用礼貌策略原则。
翻译不仅是跨语言的行为，它也是一种文化信息的传递。公示语翻译也是一样。公示语的翻译不仅仅要考虑语言应该的无懈可击，在文化信息的传递上也要能被大众广泛接受。因此，在公示语翻译的研究是有必要介绍礼貌原则的概念。
