Abstract

 With China’s further progress achieved in the reform and opening-up policy as well as the entry into WTO, China has strode into a new era in communicating with foreign countries. China needs to know more about the world and it is also to be known by the world. News media is the most important carrier to transmit information. Political news has become an ideal windows for common people to know the foreign countries. Political news headline serves as the “title” of news piece because it is concise and informative. Most readers often want to obtain as much information as possible in the shortest time. It is apparent that the headline plays a very fundamental role in the news report. Thus we must attach great importance to the translation of the political news headline.
Structurally, the thesis focuses on introducing the translation strategies of English political news headline based on the theoretical bedrock of the Skopos Theory. The brief introduction of the Skopos Theory are given in Chapter Two. Chapter Three discusses the main differences and similarities between Chinese and English political news headlines and the related examples are cited and analyzed. Problems in English political news headline translation and some proper translation strategies according to the Skopos Theory are introduced in Chapter Four. In the end, this thesis concludes of the content.

摘要

随着中国改革开放的深入以及加入世界贸易组织，中国与西方国家的交流和联系日益频繁。中国需要更好地了解世界，世界也需要更好地认识中国。大量的信息经由新闻媒介传播，而政治新闻是普通人了解西方国家最理想的途径之一。包含大量信息的标题凭借其简洁性成为新闻相对比较重要的部分。大部分读者都希望能在最短的时间里获取最大量的信息，这也就加强了政治新闻标题的重要性。因此，我们要高度重视政治新闻标题的翻译。
  这篇论文主要介绍了功能目的论视角下英语政治新闻标题的翻译策略。第二章主要介绍了政治新闻标题的特点并对功能目的论的发展进行了综述。第三章结合了相关例子解释了汉英政治新闻标题翻译的不同点和相同点。第四章重点介绍了目前政治新闻标题英汉翻译中存在的问题并提出一些可行性的翻译策略。最后, 对本文做了总结。

Chapter One Introduction
    News is everywhere in our common life. Among different kinds of news, political news is the most attractive to us. It can always be the focal point in not only the newspaper but the television and radio program. The distance between nations has been shortened with the development of science and technology. In every corner of the world, with news as an available media, people are discussing the turbulent political scene including the presidential election, the revision of constitution and the strikes of workers. All this shows that the political news has increasingly become important. Headline is an indispensable, important and special part of news.  The essence of the main content of the news story can be reflected by a good headline. They can often guide the readers to know the news content. And also, they can attract the readers’ eyeballs. So, the headlines’ quality is very important to the news. Therefore, the translation of political news headline is undoubtedly a big problem which needs us to pay more attention and patience.
