在现代社会中，电影已经成为人们必不可少的必需品。近些年来，随着人们知识水平的不断提高，人们对大量入境影片的欣赏水平也日益提高。大量外国影片的引进，使得市场对外语影片字幕翻译的需求不断增长，但是当前英语影片的字幕翻译标准很不统一，这无疑会影响影片的质量，因此，本文从直译与意译的翻译特点入手，通过研究直译与意译的翻译原则对文化生活的指导作用，针对一些常见问题举出电影中的例证，并提出相应的解决办法，。就如何应用直译与意译的翻译原则翻译英文字幕进行探究，从而为广大外语电影爱好者提供一个良好的外语学习环境。

Abstract:

Recently film is very necessary in people’s daily life. With the rapid development of reform and openness, China has become a world-oriented country, and welcomes the new culture in an active manner. Films, as an important formative part of culture communication, get into the public gradually. In recent years, with the increasing improvement of people’s knowledge level, people’s appreciation towards the foreign films has improved as well. Although a large amount of foreign films have been introduced into China, the foreign film subtitles still remain some common problems, and this article will discuss the ways of translating foreign film subtitle with the help of literal translation and free translation, meanwhile, the author provides the reader with some classical cases from the certain films, aiming to show to the readers more skills on foreign film subtitle translation.

1. Introduction
Film is an art suits both refined and popular taste, as well as the mass entertainment activity. With the development of international communication, foreign film, especially American films pour into China and come near to the common people. Thus, the mutual translation of film subtitle is of especial importance. The translation work towards film subtitle plays thus an important role in film cultural communication. During the procedure of mutual translation, literal translation and free translation are very important and own the relation of interdependence.[1](P4-7)
    In this article, focus mainly goes to the ways of film subtitle translation as well as the principles we should obey during the process of film subtitle translation. In the following parts, except for analysing the common ways of film subtitle translation, I also use some cases to illustrate my idea towards these principles.
