[摘  要]

随着2008北京奥运会的成功举办、2010上海世博会的圆满召开以及2011西安世园会的顺利闭幕，双语标识的译写工作受到前所未有的关注。在这样的背景下，本文将通过对北京、青岛、上海、深圳以及成都等几种代表性的地方性公共标识翻译规范进行比较研究，并找出其局限性或有待改善的地方，探讨其原因及造成的负面影响，并提出相应的完善意见，如加强区域间公共标识翻译规范编写工作的交流合作，有选择性的借鉴国外的公共标识并结合中国双语标识的实际情况，多用拼音翻译特殊地名等。

Abstracts:

With the success of the 2008 Beijing Olympics，the holding of the Shanghai World Expo2010, and the smooth conclusion of 2011 Xi’an International Horticultural Expo, issues related to bilingual sign translation have received much attention. This article will focus on the  existing translation problems of public signs, on the basis of a comparative study of several typical translation standards of public signs such as those issued in Beijing, Qingdao, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Chengdu. It is proposed that the increase of regional cooperation, the combination of international generality and Chinese specialty, and the emphasis on Chinese Pinyin in translation of Chinese place names and improvements, may help uplift the quality of public sign translation in China.

1. Introduction
Since the opening and reform policy has been carried on for years, China is involving itself to the communication with the world in a much deeper and wider way. Entering new century, China in economy, science and technology, culture and other fields have made great achievements and its international community's position also is increasing day by day. While more and more Chinese are going abroad, foreign politicians, businessmen, students as well as tourists, are coming to China, in a constantly increasing number. In order to provide foreign friends with actual help about their work and life, a great number of English translations of public signs have been supplied. However, different kinds of translation problems do bring much trouble on the contrary. 
Therefore, it is of necessity to study the guidelines for English translations in public places. Though an increasing number of scholars and professionals are making efforts for the establishment of a series of relative comprehensive and all-sided translation standard in public places and there are individual completed local translations guidelines have been issued in recent years, there are quite a number of difficulties and uncertainties in the specific process of rule-making. Realization of bilingual signs is not so easy and simple both in the country and abroad, because it is an interdisciplinary and systematic project.
