Abstract: With the development of communication among different countries, translation is becoming more and more significant. As one of the most widely used ways of cultural communication, movie plays an important role in popular entertainment. Subtitle translation is the open sesame of appreciating other countries’ movies. Learning subtitle translation is a practical way to improve translators’ translation competence. By this way, translators’ structure of knowledge and professional skills can be improved as well. Therefore, it is necessary to study cultivation of translation competence from the perspective of subtitle translation. This paper aims to analyze the application of subtitle translation to translation learning. This paper is composed of five parts. The first part is the introduction. The second part introduces the characteristics of subtitle translation. The third part illustrates the constraints and strategies of subtitle translation. The fourth part explores some practical approaches of translation learning through subtitle translation. The last part is the conclusion. Hopefully, this paper will provide some suggestions for translators to improve their translation competence by manipulating subtitle translation in translation practice.

摘  要：随着各国文化交流的快速发展，翻译已经占据了举足轻重的地位。作为当代运用最广泛的交流方式，影视产业受到了很多人的关注。影视翻译是观看外国影片的敲门砖。通过学习影视翻译来提高翻译能力对于译者来说是一种非常实用的方法。通过这种方法，译者的知识结构和专业技能都将得到提升。因此，从影视翻译的角度研究如何培养翻译能力是非常有必要的。本文旨在分析影视翻译在翻译能力培养中的运用。本文共分为五个部分。第一部分是介绍。第二部分介绍了影视翻译的特点。第三部分介绍了影视翻译的局限性以及相应的策略。第四部分讨论了影视翻译在翻译能力培养中的实际运用。最后一部分是结论。希望本文能给予那些通过影视翻译来提升翻译能力的译者们一些建议。

Learning translation from the perspective of subtitle translation is a practical way to improve translation competence. This paper will discuss the application of subtitle translation to translation learning.
