摘  要

随着社会的进步与发展，尤其是科技的发展，越来越多的新词语出现在人们的日常生活中。词语作为语言载体，承担着交流的重要职能，因此，“新词”“热词”的翻译举足轻重，而某些词汇因带有鲜明的时代特色和文化色彩，翻译起来比较困难。本文将从具有明显中国特色的词语“土豪”着手重点研究其英译。众所周知，“土豪”是近年来在网络中流行起来的一个旧的词汇，因此本文还将探讨它的流行情况及汉语语义的演变。最后，通过以上研究，分析得出汉语“土豪”的最佳英译为拼音Tuhao，因其能完全涵盖该词不断延伸的含义和提高汉语在国际上的地位及影响力。

Abstract

With the social progress and development, especially advancement in science and technology, more and more new or hot words have appeared in our daily life. Words, as the carrier of language, play an important role in our communication, so the translation of new or hot words has a decisive position. However , it’s rather difficult to translate some Chinese words which have distinct features of the times and cultural colors into proper English. This paper will focus on the study of the suitable English translation of a typical Chinese word “tuhao”. As is known, the Chinese word “tuhao” is not a new word that recently has become popular in the network, so this paper will also discuss its current situation and evolution of its Chinese denotation. Finally, based on the study, the author has found that the Chinese Pinyin “Tuhao” is the best and most proper English translation version of the Chinese word, because it can not only completely cover the original word’s continuously extended meaning, but also improve the international influence and status of Chinese culture and spread the traditional Chinese culture.
