Abstract
As a significant measure narrowing the gap between different cultures, translation is filled with cultural influence. Taking the status quo of the English-Chinese translation of film title as a starting point, with plenty of title translation examples, this thesis tries to analyze the origin of the difficulties in film title translation from the aspect of cultural diversity.  By elaborating the characteristics of Chinese and Western culture and the cultural diversity revealed by film title translation, it clarifies the influence of cultural diversity upon the translation, and sum up a set of translation methods such as literal translation, free translation etc..

翻译作为拉近两种文化间距离的重要手段, 蕴含了相当的文化因素影响。本文从英语电影片名汉译现状出发，以大量的片名翻译作为范例，试图从中西方文化的差异角度分析翻译电影片名时的困难之源头。论文将着重阐述由电影名可看到的中西文化特征及文化层次的差异，并由此分析文化差异对电影名汉译的影响。并结合实例总结出有效的翻译处理方法，如意译、直译、音译等等。

Film is a form of art of great popularity, which often has entertaining power together with ample connotation. Quintessence of a film is concentrated in few words within its title. As for translation field, the translation of film title is becoming an element of great importance in this globalized world.
It is agreed that translation is not only the transformation from one language to another, but also a crucial measure to alter one cultural image for the target language receiver to understand. Therefore, the factor of cultural diversity should be taken into consideration.
