Abstract
This paper intends to probe into the application of Functional Equivalence Theory by Eugene A. Nida in the translation of Wei Cheng by selecting characteristic lexicon, syntax and rhetoric devices in this novel. Firstly, this study gives a systematical introduction of the formation and evolution of Functional Equivalence Theory by Eugene A. Nida. Then, it analyzes characteristic lexicon, syntax and rhetoric devices under the frame of Functional Equivalence Theory. The paper therefore concludes that there are limitations and applicability in Functional Equivalence Theory by Eugene A. Nida, aiming to approach ultimate solutions to demonstrating the beauty of original literary works.

1 Introduction
In a vast number of literary translation works, reaching the goal of demonstrating their original styles is not only an indispensable component of literary translation, but also a great challenge for most translators. Literary translation requires creative minds like other forms of arts do; still, literary translation falls into the category of translation not originality. Precisely, it is a process of recreation. It is well known that translators should adhere to a famous principle of “Faithfulness, Expressiveness and Elegance” and need to base their translation on certain scientific translation theory. Furthermore, translation criteria vary with originals of different styles.
