摘 要
随着全球化的发展,英语在国际交流中起着越来越重要的作用。因此,在当代,英语教学被高度推崇,孩子们甚至从小学就开始学习英语了。然而为了优化课堂教学,教师们应充分利用好多媒体,激发小学生的学习兴趣并且让其主动地去学习,为其提供一个真实的语言学习环境,促使其能够更好地掌握英语知识,并且能真正把课堂所学的语言运用到生活中去。因此,此课题的研究核心旨在研究多媒体在小学英语教学中的作用,以此为出发点,首先介绍多媒体的含义以及多媒体教学的背景和地位,其次分别阐述在小学英语教学中运用多媒体辅助教学和不运用多媒体辅助教学两种不同的教学方法,将两种教学方法进行对比,最后总结出在小学英语教学中运用多媒体辅助教学的重要性和优点。

Abstract
With the quickening pace of global development, English plays an increasingly important role in international communication. Thus, nowadays, English teaching is highly recommended, and students even begin to learn English in primary school. However, Chinese English teachers face many troubles in traditional teaching methods. It is difficult for them to teach English with just chalks and a blackboard, because pupils will lose their interest if their teachers use this way to teach them English. But since the day when the computer was produced, it has gotten the inseparable contact with English. Applying multimedia to English teaching is an inevitable trend. Multimedia has a positive effect on improving teaching quality and teaching capacity. In order to optimize English teaching, teachers should make fully use of multimedia to stimulate pupils’ interest and let them learn English actively. Besides, teachers should create an authentic language learning environment for them, and make them grasp English better. In addition, it is a good thing that pupils can take knowledge that they learn in class into the real life. Therefore, this essay aims to research for multimedia-assisted in English teaching in primary school. Firstly, this paper is written to introduce something about multimedia, such as the meanings of multimedia, the background and status of multimedia teaching. Then, it illustrates the results of not using and using multimedia in English teaching. There are also some advices for multimedia teaching. At last, it shows the importance of multimedia.

1 Introduction
This paper is written to introduce something about multimedia-assisted in English teaching in primary school, such as the functions of multimedia, the results of not using and using multimedia in English teaching and the importance of multimedia.
1.1 Definition of multimedia
Generally speaking, media is the medium of information exchange between people. In other words, it is the carrier of information, also referred to as media. Multimedia means multiple media and it can be understood directly as the text, graphics, images, animations, sounds, videos, and other media in general that used for human senses. The integration of these media into the computer provides additional possibilities for the use of computational power currently available.
