Abstract
“Lead-in” is the first step in classroom teaching. Although the time of the lead-in part is limited, the function of the lead-in is very important. If there is a good lead-in part in a class, it will intrigue students’ learning interest and attract their attention, which makes their study relaxing and natural. On the contrary, if the lesson lacks of proper lead-in part or to be without it, it will make students lose the chance to prepare for the lesson and have to face the difficulty. However, the research towards the lead-in part in a class is very rare, especially in the junior middle school English teaching. On the basis of looking up some related materials, this paper firstly introduces the functions and principles of the lead-in. And then through the observation and record towards the junior middle school English classroom teaching, it analyses the strategies of the lead-in as well as its meaning and methods. Lastly, the paper concludes the lead-in strategies used in resent junior middle school classroom teaching and besides it discusses the different strategies based on different kinds of classes. All in all, it is hoped to give readers the inspiration of lead-in teaching.

1 Introduction
1.1 Background
In recent years, with the reform of the English textbook of the junior middle school, students’ book has become more interesting than before. Meanwhile, the reform has brought the hope to the junior middle school English teaching. The old grammar-oriented teaching has gradually replaced by the communicative teaching. All the above progress has made students have the unprecedented interest and study motivation towards English. However, facing the pressure of teaching tasks and admission exams, most junior middle school teachers always ignore the step of lead-in in order to teach more things. To conclude, the problems existing now are: firstly, a change in form but not in content. As we all know, the textbooks have become more and more vivid and interesting, and every unit has its own topic, especially the warm-up activity in the beginning. It is originally a good way for teachers to lead in the lesson. But the fact is that it is ignored by most of the teachers. Because they think it is unnecessary and they always pay more attention to the interpretation of the key grammar and vocabulary instead of spending time on lead-in part. Secondly, Students gradually lose the interest of learning English owing to the heavy burden of study. Facing the pressure of entering to a better higher school, students have to prepare for every lesson. As a result, the pragmatism becomes prevailing among the students’ learning ways. From the students’ perspective, the ways which can help them improve their scores are the best. And they don’t have the concepts of how to teach lessons and whether the lesson has the rich and colorful lead-in part or not.
